I headed out for a 5:30am run yesterday to avoid the heat of the day, and found a delightful excuse to stop for a breather: wildflower photography. (Oh, how I love distractions on a run!)
Prickly pear cactus flowers were waiting for just a little more solar energy before opening. Bonus: check out the North Platte River in the background. The water’s up! We’ve gotten a half-inch of rain or more in the past couple of days! Hooray!
Showy milkweed. I was going to photograph some plains sunflowers blooming nearby, but I was being swarmed by gnats and decided it was time to move along.
It’s a great time to head out for a walk or run on the pathways of western Nebraska!
