“Let me ‘splain. … No, there is too much. Let me sum up.” -Inigo Montoya, Princess Bride
I have been too busy to blog lately. That happens when you are working 60+ hour weeks, training for a marathon, training for a bike ride, involved with community events, and attempting to keep the house from looking like a wreck.
Bugman and I missed a few rides, too, since he was traveling on business and then caught a nasty cold.
Then, Bugman and I headed out on a weeklong bicycle journey in the greater Yellowstone area . . . blog coming on that saga – just trying to figure out whether I should do one mammoth blog post, or break it up by days.
In the meantime, here are some things I saw / experienced while running and biking in the past month …
My nemesis on morning runs: automatic sprinklers watering the sidewalks. Though there can be a benefit to them. I saw a little girl and her mom, arms up, doing the “crossing the finish line” pose. They were running through a sprinkler together.
A loose domestic rabbit that I have seen several times in the vicinity of Ave B and 20th/19th Streets.
A lot of sunrises illuminating the bluffs.
A deer just across the irrigation ditch to the north of Scotts Bluff.
A mink swimming across the North Platte River.
Morning fog obscuring the bluffs.
A bad dog owner whose off-leash cattle dog charged me one day and leaped onto a walker in front of me on another day. (Photo blurred to protect the guilty . . .for now . . . but an appearance on a “dog-owner shaming” site might be appropriate in future.)
Clouds mirroring the shape of a river bend.
A family of turkeys
Courthouse and Jail Rocks
A minimally maintained road
A mobile home graveyard, with cattle
A pronghorn antelope with a tractor in the distance
A hawk perching on an irrigation sprinkler overturned in a spring tornado.
Loose wheel spokes! (More on that later.)
